  • It is really odd to encounter a parrot while out hiking in the mountains. The Kia bird also happens to one of the most social and cunning wild birds I have seen. If you're not careful they are in your bags looking for tasty morsels or just because their curious.
  • One of our last mountain views before we leave New Zealand and also the beginning of the first tramp we did in New Zealand in 2008 during our first trip.
  • The moon setting over our decent route down the scree slope to our camping spot. The way down was quite a bit more enjoyable than the hike up the scree slope we did the next morning.
  • While the lupin were introduced they are no less impressive in New Zealand than they are back home.. In fact probably a lot more impressive since it is more common to pass whole fields of purple.
